Right after the border this small country welcomes us with many people. Slowly we meander through the crowded market. On an ordinary asphalt road we are progressing quickly and rapidly we go from 1200 meters down to around 500 meters. It is hot the thermometer climbs to 31 degrees. Obviously, there are more solid stone houses and more mosques otherwise at first glance there is not much difference to Mozambique.
 
Our goal is Cape Mclear in Lake Malawi National Park. Once the place was a hippie dropout point, but those days are gone. Nevertheless, there is still plenty of backpacker accommodation and guesthouses, but in the meantime also 'normal' accommodation and camping facilities can be found. Cape Mclear should also be known for the most beautiful sunsets in Africa. In Africa they are never stingy with superlatives.
After two days in "Eagles Nest" we get back on the road. Via some tight switchbacks we drive up into the highlands of Lilongwe. Too bad that it is so hazy, distant vision from up here would be fantastic.
 
In the capital it just teems of people and yet it is almost leisurely. Nobody here is in a hurry. To be in a hurry is perceived as being unrespectful.
Malawi still belongs to one of the poorest countries in the world and yet we feel like being in paradise. Downtown there are several well-stocked supermarkets, with an offering that we did not have for a long time, yogurt, cheese, juices, and much more. Only now we notice what we have missed so much. And, we do find a very good butcher where we get almost everything our heart desires.
