The South

The Kruger National Park and the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park (GLTP) are grouped to one national park. On the Mozambican side, however, the park is densely covered, we hardly see any animals, and the infrastructure of the Kruger cannot be expected here, of course, the road is a corrugated track of the finest. During the Civil War there was a lot of poaching in this region, and even today there is poaching, so it is difficult to resettle game.

On a boring stretch that leads through Mopane and thorn bushes from the GLTP and then through the small town of Massingir to the inland, we head east. In doing so, we always pass the poor housing estates of the local population.
 
We are glad that we drive only so and with air-conditioning we can bear the 42 degrees outside temperature. Apparently, it has rained recently, giant puddles "stand" in the valleys. But it is not just the heat that makes us sick today. Our roof cannot be elevated at night. Consequently we have to sleep in our mosquito domes outside the truck.

In the middle of the night, just after three o'clock, the first people, happily entertaining, are passing by with their animals directly next to us to the fields. And just as if we were standing on a market place, now more people with animals or work equipment come passing us. Sure, it's cooler in the morning, only 31 degrees... ...read more...
